The Nautilus Chamber Choreographic Residency

The Nautilus Chamber Winter Residency has been awarded to NY-based choreographer, director, teacher, performer and producer Kelly Bartnik. She will spend 6 weeks in beautiful San Miguel de Allende, Mexico making new work, collaborating with local dancers and crafting a work-in-progress showing from December 2023 - January 2024.



KELLY BARTNIK is a NY-based choreographer, performer, director, teacher and producer and was an original cast member of both the Boston and NY productions of Sleep No More. She has performed in the Immersive experiences Waking La Llorona and Portaleza, by Optika Moderna and The Unbrunch, created by Cinereal Productions. She also was Movement Director for Optika Moderna’s latest project, Las Quinceañeras. Kelly has also had the pleasure of performing with Witness Relocation, Cora Dance, Melissa Briggs Dance, South Brooklyn Shakespeare, Woodshed Collective, Switch N Play, The Pack Theater, Cakeface and Shelter Theatre Group among others. She was the recipient of an evening-length commission by Gibney Dance for the premiere of her latest stage work - Fuck / Love: The Poetics of Adoration. She has taught at Colby College, Queens College, NYU's Playwright’s Horizons Theater School, Emory University, Spelman College and has conducted Immersive performance training at Meow Wolf, Santa Fe. She has directed and choreographed Immersive experiences for Amazon, Tentr, Twitch, and AMC. Kelly is currently mounting new large-scale Immersive productions in both Atlanta and New York called HERE{after} and was recently the Creative Director of the first large-scale Immersive experience called Hotel Wonderland in Amsterdam.


Help Kelly get flown down, create and film her works, pay her collaborators and bring international dance talent to San Miguel Allende. She will be collaborating with local dancers as well as filmmaker Mariana Argueta.

Kelly and Mariana first met in 2021, where they collaborated on the dance film Sidewise through Experimental Film VA:




Almost two years later, they are excited to reconnect and work together once again during the residency at the Nautilus Chamber.

The Nautilus Chamber is a semi-subterranean 1000sq.ft. canteric arched dance studio in the style of Gaudi with excellent audio and acoustics, sprung floor, small barre and mirrors. While the residency does include housing and the beautiful private studio space, there exists a need to cover travel expenses as well as fees for collaborators, supplies, video production fees, etc.

Below is an approximate breakdown of estimated expenses for the duration of the 6-week residency:

  • Flight: $ 1,100
  • Food / Living Expenses: $1,500
  • Supplies / Travel within the city: $ 1,200
  • Collaborator Fees $ 2,000
  • Video Production Fees: $1,000
  • GoFundMe Fees $ 300
