WE NEED YOUR HELP TO RAISE FUNDS TO PROVIDE SWIMMING LESSONS TO P5 AND P6 PUPILS IN AUGUST 2025
In December 2024 the John Smith Pool suffered a catastrophic failure. It remains closed with no indication as to when or if it will reopen.
Swimming is an essential part of the curriculum. We also believe that it is a key life skill that has the potential to save lives, especially in a country where we are surrounded by water. That is why the parent council use funds raised from the events we hold to fund swimming lessons for P6 pupils.
With the uncertainty around the reopening of the John Smith pool we have agreed to fund swimming lessons for both P5 and P6 pupils at the Time Capsule when they return after summer. Putting two year groups through lessons at the same time will provide space for decisions to be made about whether the pool will reopen, and for any repair work to be undertaken. It also gives us time to identify a long term solution should the decision be made to close the pool permanently.
Moving the lessons to Coatbridge means that buses will be required to transport the pupils. This increases the cost of providing lessons substantially. We are therefore looking for you help to raise the additional cost of transporting the pupils to their swimming lessons.
Anything you can give will be very much appreciated!!!
