Traumatic Brain Injury Recovery for Jeff Fuhr

Donation protected

On Sunday, September 27th, 2020, my family was having a normal day when tragedy suddenly struck. You think it’s never going to happen to you and that something like this only happens to other people. That morning, my dad fell 7 feet off a ladder in our garage and suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury, and multiple fractures in his skull, vertebrae, ribs, and elbow This is something that some don’t ever recover from, but my dad is a miracle in this sense and has been given a second chance at life. After a craniotomy (a surgical opening into the skull), days of being in the ICU, numerous tubes going in and out, sleep, and many prayers and healing energy sent his way, my dad is able to speak and move once again. But there is still a very long road to recovery.

The funding from this page will be going towards more than most people think. One might automatically think of insanely high hospital and rehabilitation and therapy bills, but it really goes beyond that. After serving in the Army, my dad became a self-employed musician for 40 years. You may know him as the frontman, Jeffrey Fuhr, in the Colorado local band The Cactus Jack Band. To provide a full income, my dad worked during the day as a construction worker finishing houses. After suffering such a severe fall, my dad has now lost his ability to work at this time This unfortunately comes with the loss of his health insurance that is tied to his job. So not only is he losing any kind of financial assistance from health insurance, he’s also losing his income that provides for our family and keeps us afloat. Normal everyday basic bills like mortgage, water, and electricity are now a hardship to be able to pay.

This is where YOU come in. I ask for the human kindness of others. Whether that be sharing this page, donating, or both, any and all actions are appreciated. If there’s one thing my dad has taught me, that is to always treat others as you wish to be treated. I think of when I come across other GoFundMe pages and try to donate to others in need if I can, or share that person’s page and story to help spread the word. This time, I am asking for your help in doing the same.  I believe that with your help and the help of others, you can help my family in this time of need and support.

My dad is a movie buff, and one of his favorite movies is “Pay it Forward”, and I truly believe in the message and philosophy that movie sends out. If one person helps three people, and those three people each help three other people, the kindness will spread, and everyone will be helping everyone. Please let this be your moment of paying it forward. My family and I thank you for taking the time to stop and read our story, and for donating and sharing.

**Update: My dad had not been terminated from his job, and we are trying to “buy” another month of health insurance from his employer. We are not entirely sure how long we will be able to continue to keep him insured in this way.

**Update: Jeff has begun his rehabilitation therapy at Craig hospital today. He will have 6-8 weeks of therapy before he is able to return home and have in-home therapy.
