Help Bianca Bounce Back from Traumatic Car Crash

Donation protected

On Sunday night (03/03/19), I was in a bad winter-weather car accident in Lancaster, Pennsylania, where I ended up upside down in a snow-covered ditch. One light tap on the brakes on snow and ice led to a long fishtailing back and forth across the road. Instead of crashing left into someone’s car or house, I opted to maneuver to the right into the ditch and ended up with the devastating damage you see in the photo below.

Thankfully, God provided two men who were on the scene almost immediately and helped free me from the vehicle. I am so grateful for walking away without major injury.

Unfortunately, the car, which was borrowed from friends, did not fare as well; it was totaled. This is a huge financial concern as I do not have collision coverage while in the US. Because I serve overseas in humanitarian work, my basic auto insurance coverage here in the US only has liability coverage (damage to others' property) and medical, but not collision coverage. The owners of the car do not have collision coverage either. (The husband is a mechanic who fixes his own car problems when they happen.) They are now without this vehicle and I need to give them enough to buy a comparable vehicle.

I also need to pay a towing bill as well as rent a car to use for the rest of this trip. There is not enough cash on hand to meet these expenses. My inner circle support team and I are looking to people like you in our networks to rally with resources and support to help in meeting these completely unexpected financial needs. We—myself included—cannot make it through life’s most critical seasons without a strong network to give relief and hope. Please consider helping us meet these new financial needs as you are able.

Here's a bit more financial detail:

Towing bill: $1,000

Neither of our insurance covers towing in a collision. Due to the heavy snow, two different trucks (at a minimum of $300 each) were needed to get the car out of the ditch. I’ve been told towing costs could be anywhere from $600-1500! I’ll know more precisely later this week.

Vehicle replacement: $7,000

I haven't settled on an exact amount with the owners yet, but need to compensate them for a comparable replacement. I will update this number when I know more.

Rental car: $500

I need a set of wheels to get around for all I need to do in the next 3 weeks. Your help with the cost of a rental car will preserve funds given to Petra Peacebuilders for the work that we do rather than deplete those funds to pay for this unexpected expense.

Some of you know that I’ve been without any salary since founding Petra Peacebuilders three years ago. I have no personal financial reserves. I’ve been hard at work trying to restore financial equilibrium after a long and difficult season, and this unexpected setback threatens that. I find that discouraging, yet am also hopeful that there are many good people out there who can help out in this time of need. I'd be so grateful!

With gratitude and hope,
