Trasie & Wyatt - In need of a new home - Mold Nightmare!

Donation protected
I can't believe my situation has come to this but I am reaching out asking for help because we are almost out of options and running out of time with school starting soon...

My name is Trasie and I am a single mom to an amazing 12 year old boy. We also have an adorable Schnoodle dog named Teddy. We had a sweet chihuahua also but she passed away recently (More on that in a minute). We have been Hermosa Beach residents since 2019.

I have been posting about our recent nightmare on social media so I know some of you know our story. For those that don't, here is a somewhat quick overview. After living in a home for 4.5 years, we decided we needed more space. My son and I found what we thought was an amazing 2bdrm/2bath close to the beach and school. We had amazing ocean views and we were so excited.

About a month after moving in, my son became extremely sick and had to be rushed to the hospital one night because he couldn't breathe. It turns out he had a horrible reaction to his... at the time, "mild asthma" He was admitted into the ICU because they could't get his breathing under control. He was in the hospital for a week. We later found out that the amazing place we moved into wasn't so amazing after all and our nightmare began.

After learning that our building has had mold issues in the past, we had mold testing done and found out that there were high levels of toxic mold in our home. The report said it was due to lack of ventilation in the bathrooms and a poorly maintained roof but the landlord assured us it could be easily fixed. We had to move to a hotel for 16 days (I paid for this) while they ripped out several walls in our home and did a crappy remediation. The landlord decided to go against the mold report and didn't replace the bathroom vent fan because he didn't want to spend the money. We were eventually given the all clear and moved back in. My son was now on a daily steroid inhaler trying to get better but kept getting sick. We thought we were on the mend and then with all the rain, the mold came back even worse. It started growing around the bedroom windows and on our clothing in the closets. The landlord sent the maintenance guy over to replace the windows and not do a formal remediation to save money. He told us after the windows were replaced that we were all clear. Around April, I started getting sick with sinus infections, headaches and a horrible sore throat that still hasn't gone away. Our small 4lb dog was also experiencing respiratory symptoms and later passed away, I am convinced it was because of the toxic mold. In April I asked for another mold test and the numbers came back ridiculously high. We now had over 20k mold spores of aspergillus/penicillium, cladosporium and stratabocys (black mold). I had had enough so we told them we were moving out. I didn't want to go through another remediation.

While looking for another place to move to, I was laid off. Now unemployed, nobody would rent a home to me. I started looking for work immediately and put our stuff in storage. We have been staying with family and friends but we are almost out of options. School is starting soon and I am getting low on funds after having to stay in hotels and paying all of our medical bills.

I had to throw my sons bed out and we will need to get new furniture. I am asking for help so we can get into a new place, have our attorney fight this horrible homeowner in court. We desperately want to get back to some sort of normalcy so Wyatt can go back to school and I can start my new job in September. I have found an amazing new job but I can't start until we settle somewhere. I am overwhelmed but trying to stay hopeful. I don't expect anyone to help but if you have read this far, thank you.

If you feel called, please pass this along to anyone you think may want to help us rebuild.

Thank you again for supporting us in this very trying time in our lives.

With Gratitude,
