Trash for Trees is a local group in St. Louis City, dedicated to picking up trash and planting native trees.
My name is Aaron Dohogne and I'm the Director of Trash for Trees. We are volunteer-driven.
I started Trash for Trees about 4 years ago. Since then, we've picked up over 300,000 pieces of trash off the street, and planted over 200 native trees in the city in the yards of homeowners.
Our goals in 2025-2026 are to pick up 100,000 pieces of trash and plant another 100 native trees. We'll be picking up trash in the south city neighborhoods of Mount Pleasant, Gravois Park, and Benton Park West.
I am asking for donations to help buy our trees. Each tree costs $30. So, we need $3,000 to buy 100 trees. All donations will go towards buying trees. We will buy our trees from Forest ReLeaf of Missouri. We'll plant in the spring and fall of 2026.
We will give away these trees to homeowners and each homeowner can have up to 3 trees planted on their private property.
For every $10 donation, we will pick up 152 pieces of trash. (There are 152 pieces of trash in the US per person, generated each year).
$10 donation = 152 pieces of trash
$20 donation = 304 pieces of trash
$30 donation = 456 pieces of trash
$60 donation = 912 pieces of trash
$90 donation = 1,368 pieces of trash
$100 donation = 1,520 pieces of trash
$200 donation = 3,040 pieces of trash
