Portal Productions is a theater company out of Portland, Oregon.  We are debuting our first play, Trash Diggers, which is an original work mapping the arc of depression through a playful fiction.  Trash Diggers follows the people of Wrangel Island, an island devoid of memory where the world's saddest people have come to forget.  The inhabitants of the island are called Trash Diggers.  They are solitary creatures who only want to eat and sleep and are very afraid of the only other inhabitants of the island, walruses.

Portal Productions aims to tell stories that are both fun and close to the heart.  We believe in telling our stories not just after we have healed but in the midst of our confusion.  Our goal is to bring people together through the telling of our hopes and struggles and promote bravery and inspiration for others to tell their own stories.

Trash Diggers is for anyone who has ever felt sensitive or a lack of belonging.  It is for anyone who has experienced depression and also for those who have ever loved someone who has gone through it.  It is an all-ages show that touches the heart and the imagination at any level of maturity.

With the funds we are aiming to raise, we will be building the world of the play.  We will be able to make costumes for the Trash Diggers and build a walrus puppet (and speaking of walruses, we have really cute walrus t-shirts for sale Here! )  We will also be able to make a minimal set to showcase the desolation of the island where the play is set.

Furthermore, we will be able to pay all the artists that are involved.  That includes our 4 actors, set designer, stage manager, production manager, sound designer, lighting designer.  The more we can raise the closer we get to paying our artists what they deserve.

Finally, we will be able to afford the theater where we are opening our play which is due the week we open our show on December 2nd.  Our run will be 2 weeks long, with a total of 7 performances.

Your support would mean everything to us.  This story and particular production has been a long time coming and also just in time.  It is something that is very close to our hearts in very individually different ways.  Raising the funds that would fuel this show would be a dream come true and would show that mental illness does not always have to be a hinderance and, on the contrary, can be turned into something magical.

Thank you so much for your time and support and stay tuned for more...
