My mom has been financially abused by her job. Despite working hard, she’s not being paid fairly, and now she can’t afford basic necessities. She’s struggling to put food on the table, pay her electric bill, and keep our housing.
My mom and I are in a housing emergency and need help getting out of unsafe living conditions in Louisiana.
We’re currently living in a slum apartment with undrinkable water, mold, and rigged plumbing and electrical systems that our landlord’s maintenance men installed. The water is unsafe to drink, cook with, or bathe in. There’s visible mold growing throughout our unit. The electrical and plumbing work is dangerous and was done improperly—just to make it look like maintenance was done.
We’re facing eviction either way:
• If we don’t pay rent, we’ll be evicted
• If our utilities aren’t paid, we’ll be evicted
• But we can’t afford both, and we’re being financially abused by my mom’s job
My mom works hard, but her employer is financially abusing her—she’s not being compensated fairly and is being taken advantage of. Despite working, she can’t afford basic necessities. We’re struggling to pay bills, buy groceries, and keep our housing.
We’re trying to get out of Louisiana. We need to be somewhere safe, where the water is drinkable, the housing is habitable, and we’re not living in a slum. We deserve to live in a place where our health and safety aren’t at risk every single day.
Every single dollar will go directly to:
• Rent and utilities to prevent immediate eviction
• Moving expenses to relocate to a safe location (truck rental, gas, packing supplies)
• Security deposit + first month’s rent on a safe apartment in our new location
• Utility setup fees at our new place
• Food and essential items for survival during this crisis
• Transportation costs to get us to our new state
• Emergency buffer for unexpected costs during the move
We’re also applying for:
• SNAP (food assistance)
• LIHEAP (utility assistance)
• Emergency rental assistance through Louisiana
These take time to process, and we need help NOW.
This is overwhelming and crushing us emotionally. The stress of not knowing if we’ll have a home, food, or safe water is unbearable. We’re trapped between eviction and financial abuse, with no way out on our own.
I’m willing to meet anyone in person who wants more details about our situation. I’m sharing this because I’m desperate to help my mom survive this crisis. She’s been working hard her whole life and doesn’t deserve to live in moldy, unsafe housing with undrinkable water.
Thank you for reading this. Even sharing this link helps more than you know.
