Fighting to regain control of our lives, never giving up.

Hi, my name is Felecia (Jackson) Perea and the photos are photos of my daughter Alexis Berrios, during this event, current photos of her as she rebuilds her life and the physical state she is trying to get back to. On October 30, 2023 Alexis drove herself to the HCA Memorial hospital emergency room in Jacksonville, FL. Diagnosed, she was being admitted for pancreatitis and in the elevator, on the way to the room, she went into full cardiac arrest because her electrolytes bottomed out. Twenty full minutes of CPR in the elevator, 5-6 AED shocks and they brought her back. She was admitted to the Critical Care Unit on a ventilator, comatose, and suffered multiple seizures that night as well as having no physical response to stimuli at all. Alexis just turned 29 years old 4 days before this happened.

I and her siblings arrived from Morgantown, WV the next night and were approached immediately with removing her from the ventilator and organ donation because things were so bad and there was no physical response. I refused because I know my daughter is a fighter.

She is still fighting this fight and after continued blood clots, pneumonia, ICU delirium, spreading cortical depression, withdrawal from the many drugs being used to treat her, cysts on her pancreas, necrosis of part of her pancreas, hopefully temporary diabetes type 2, a g-tube that caused internal bleeding, and intense speech, physical and occupational therapy, she is slowly recovering and fighting the brain damage.

Medications and the pancreas sent her back to the hospital from the rehab facility where she remained because she had been without food because of severe nausea and vomiting for 8 days! She still continued fighting!! She returned to the rehab facility and continued her rehabilitation while I struggled to obtain transportation from Jacksonville, FL back home to Morgantown, WV. We have continued to try and rebuild her life with physical and occupational therapy, round the clock family monitoring and care and/or assistance when needed.

I am seeking assistance for her continued medical bills, constant co-pays, medications, her loss of income, my loss of income, general assistance to rebuild her life. Asking does not come easily but my pride is no match for the sudden needs we are encountering. Any assistance is truly appreciated as relying on the kindness others in this time of need is a blessing.
