Since the beginning of June, I’ve had various problems with my transportation; my Pruis' hybrid battery died, right after I’d put money into other areas of my car (brakes/rotors/bald tires), meaning I was already strapped for cash. I had to borrow $2k from my father, who’s not wealthy by any means either, as he taught middle school science and lives off of his retirement. A week later, my engine started knocking, so, being low on funds, I diagnosed the issue and spent 12 hours to get to and clean the "EGR valve" and reassemble my car via YouTube's help...well, the car hadn't run smoother since I owned it....for about 8 hours. Apparently, when removing a coolant hose during that repair, I tore a tiny hole in it. When I drove to San Diego from Encinitas to replace the front tires, all my coolant leaked out, eventually seizing the engine.
The initial estimate on the engine replacement was $16k, then they came down to $12k and eventually, I found a mechanic that said he'd do it for $5860...I couldn't afford that either, so a good friend loaned me enough money to buy a relatively inexpensive motorcycle...but that too has had its issues. Today, I finally reached the point of needing to ask for help to get my car back up and running because having my car back will ensure that I'm able to work my second income until I can make the business I'm building my only income.
I'm asking for $6500 to ensure, that if there's any increase in the mechanic's cost, I can cover it without having to ask for more help.
If there are any funds over and above what I need, ironically, I've been raising money for a homeless man that I came across while getting my motorcycle license...I would use any extra to help him out. I just want what I need, nothing more.
Sorry to ask...I'm just in a situation where I can't let pride get in the way of getting back on my feet.
My car is in constant danger of getting towed...the registration is pretty far out of date, at this point, as is the motorcycle...but I at least have the paperwork to show I've been working on getting the bike up-to-date. The Prius is currently doubling as my home...so, things are a bit hectic. Any help you're able to be is greatly appreciated...its embarrassed asking.
