Transplants for Life

To all our family and Friends that may or may not know what we currently are up against. We have tried to share with as many as possible, but impossible to do when we love and are loved so much. With that being said I will share where we have come from and where were going. My Husband Daunte 42yo. Was diagnosed with Atrial-fibrillation in 2005, and sleep Apnea which has a strong correlation.  Then in 2008 diagnosed with CongestiveHeart Failure, so we have been dealing with this for many years now. This has been linked back to some genetics thus far. But in the past 2 years he has declined so much so that he is experiencing Heart Failure & Liver Failure. The Heart Failure has caused the Liver Failure. The top half of his Heart is larger than the bottom half’s. The cups in the inside only hold half the fluid causing the blood to back up on the left side. Then the Cardiac pump is pumping twice the rate backing the fluid up into the liver, causing the liver damage.  So for the past 2 months we have been going through test, and being seen by Heart Transplant specialist at University of Cincinnati, currently this is his 2nd stay here in less than 1 month. This time it has been determined that they are afraid that after getting a Heart Transplant that his liver may not be able to sustain the after effects with the medications and recovery, so he will need  a liver also. So we are being referred to Cleveland Clinic where they have a program to do both simultaneously. They have ranked 3rd in the country and been doing transplants for 30 + years. Going as an Inpatient gets us in quicker. Time is very valuable in our situation.

This is only the beginning of our journey. He will have to be evaluated this includes several testing and exams, and then determination of where he is placed on the list, which is a national data base for a donor match. There are 4 list and highest priority is a 1-A, the wait can be as soon as 2 weeks, or years. His blood type is B+ positive, which is not so rare he is average in height an only weighs about 145 lbs., he has no antibodies all good factors to getting matched to a donor. The Donor does not have to be male, or race isn’t a factor. So as of this day we have been ambulated to Cleveland Clinic. But with all this on our plate, we still have 3 sons, 2 of which are still in school.  Our children know that there Father is ill, but we still want to continue providing a normal as possible life and routine as possible. But this has been a challenged, when I have to be there as much as I can for my husband, work, and all that life brings our way.  We would appreciate any support and or donations that we would receive to assist with the many expenses that can help provide some relief during our mission.

This is a battle but I feel that I wanted to share the story because it helps us, and we pray that when this is behind us, it will be of help to someone else. Never in million years did we think we would need our strength for such a time as this. Please keep us in your thought & prayers this helps strengthen us to endure this battle.
