Transplant support needed for Dad of two
Donation protected
UPDATED AGAIN! Please see new info below.
My 35-year-old son Jay Rigaux is single Dad to my two fantastic grandkids. Just six weeks ago, Jay was finishing his fall semester at college. Then his daughter noticed that his eyes were yellow. In short order, Jay was diagnosed with a rare but devastating condition called cryptogenic hepatitis. His liver was under attack, but the cause was unknown.
Jay did nothing wrong. In fact, he was doing everything right, working hard to better provide for his family. Now he fights for his life.
Jay was admitted to Chinook Hospital on December 18th. We really thought he would recover. Instead, his condition worsened. Finally, after a terrifying bout of confusion, and four episodes of very low blood pressure, Jay was flown to the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton.
Tragically, the doctors at U of A have informed us that Jay's liver is so damaged, he will need a liver transplant. Jay is undergoing all the testing and procedures necessary to get him on to the list for a donor liver.
As his mother I am heart broken to see him struggling like this and want to help him in any way I can. I was told I am unable to be a donor for him, but hope I can at least ease his mind by raising money to help provide for his kids and his other financial responsibilities. There are many expenses associated with the transplant process. For example, Jay needs $2000 worth of dental care so that his mouth is healthy. In addition, transplant patients are expected to stay in Edmonton for at least 3 months post-transplant.
Jay is stable and in good spirits, viewing the transplant as just another challenge to be overcome. I, on the other hand, am devastated. The dread that over-takes me in the middle of the night is the most difficult. Please, please help if you can! Prayers and well wishes will go straight to our family's hearts, and are deeply appreciated.
