Looking to independently produce a workshop production of my new musical. My name is Terrell, I am a creator based in Philadelphia with a degree in theatre from Marymount Manhattan College. I am asking your help to raise $5,000 to independently produce a workshop performance (September 2019) of my new musical, Translation: Cracking the Girl Code to invite potential producers and funders for a future full length production.

Translation is a musical that follows the journey of the first Trans girl group to make it mainstream, they are five days out from their first world tour. The story follows these woman as they fight for equality and acceptance from the world but also navigate the demands of the music entertainment industry. Think along the lines of a Trans musical inspired by Dreamgirls.

Budget of $5,000:

$2,100- 6 actors at $350

$1,000- Composer/Music Director (creation of sheet music for lyrics)

$1,000- Venue and rehearsal space

$600-Choreographer

$300- All Rehearsal and Performance materials (i.e. printing, water, make up, etc...)

Performance Info:
9/19/19- 8:30 pm @ Tabu Sports Bar and Nightclub- this show will be in honor of Sheriff Dante Austin (advocate for Trans equality and rights in Philly), monetary and toiletry donations will be collected to donate to the Project Safe and the Morris Home

9/22/19- 2:30 pm @ The William Way LGBT Community Center- this show will be in honor of Sheriff Dante Austin (advocate for Trans equality and rights in Philly), monetary and toiletry donations will be collected to donate to Project Safe (https://projectsafephilly.org/) and the Morris Home (https://www.rhd.org/morrishome/)

I wrote this piece after working with a group LGBTQ youth playwrights and one student who was 16 and a Trans Black woman expressed to me they feared they had lived half their life due to Trans Woman of color life expectancy rate being 34 years old. It was then I realized had to use my privilege, my gifts to help elevate their issues as an ally and create safe spaces for these women to tell their stories. Art is my advocacy. With your help I will be able to pay the actors, get the score and music completed, pay the composer, pay the choreographer, print/buy any materials needed, obtain rehearsal space, and book the performance venue. So I am asking for $5,000. I plan to hold a post panel production lead by Trans woman of color, to address issues within the play: transphobia, sexual objectification, homelessness, disease, and betrayal within the community. I will simultaneously be applying for grants, putting forth my own money to make up for any money not raised from this campaign. Can't wait to see you at the workshop!
