Hi! My name is Gia but many of you know me as Opal. I am a transgender woman, performer, and barista at Starbucks (where I’ve been steadily working for the past 8 months.) Starbucks has an amazing health insurance program for people like myself, and I am very thankful and fortunate for my job(s). <3

Although thankful for everything that has happened this past year, it has not been easy juggling the difficulties of housing, nightlife, daylife, and adequate sleep among other things. I’m proud of myself and very grateful for my friends and family but still, things are not easy.

As for my transition, things have been going mostly smooth. Much of the money I spend on my transition specifically goes to laser, clothes (for the stage mostly), and hormones (because of course hormones aren’t free even if you’re insured<3). In about a month and a half, I will be traveling to California and undergoing FFS, my first surgical procedure. My main reason for writing this post is to ask for any help toward travel, housing, food, and work that I will not be able to do while I heal. The healing process takes a couple of weeks, so I expect to be out of commission for about a month.

I am beyond excited for this procedure to help myself feel more in tune with my mind and body; I have dreaming about it for quite some time and am so proud of myself for getting to this point. My surgery went successfully! I am so thankful to everyone who has donated as it helped me pay for travel expenses and housing while away. I am super appreciative of all the help and love I have been shown. My transition is far from over, however. I plan on receiving two other surgeries to help with gender health, so I will be keeping this GoFundMe up. Anything is appreciated and thank you so much once again
