Transgender Individual Discriminated Against For Trying On Clothes By Wal-Mart Employee!
Now Faces One-Month Ban and a $150.00+ Ticket Due Within 30 Days or Faces Jail Time!
My name is Amythest,
Today's fundraiser may tug on the heartstrings of fellow members of the Transgender Community as well as the rest of the LGBTQIA+ Community and the disabled community.
Today, my friend was slapped with a $150.00+ ticket along with a one-month ban from Wal-Mart solely based on the fact that they are a Transgender Individual. A ticket that they must pay within a 30-day time window or face jail time of 3-4 months.
This is not only sexist, but discriminatory as well. This is why it is super important to have D.E.I. in the workplace. For those who don't know, D.E.I. stands for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
It was essential to have these programs in public establishments, products, and services in the US to make it inclusive to all kinds of people, including marginalized ones.
Without D.E.I., all businesses and establishments, especially workplaces (not all but most), will be ignorant and discriminatory, mainly towards the marginalized communities. I strongly believe that companies, such as Wal-Mart, should be held accountable for their actions.
Especially when these discriminatory actions are occurring within Blue States. Washington State is a Blue State.
All my friend wanted to do was try and purchase a new swimsuit and some clothes. They should not have been body shamed by an elderly staff member and discriminated against for existing, all because they identify as a female. If my friend fails to pay the $150+ that they owe within 30 days and is sent to jail for 3 to 4 months, it will be a death sentence due to their health condition.
Not to mention the fact that they are an individual who is unable to work due to their disability, so they have no financial means to be able to pay this unlawful ticket on their own, and that is where I come in.
This is the part where I ask that if you are able to help financially, please donate to the cause; any little bit helps.
If you can't financially help, please don't feel bad, as you can still help by sharing this fundraiser.
To those who help out, thank you in advance.
Below is a rundown of what happened, from my friend's point of view:
" I grabbed a one-piece swimsuit and a bra that I liked. I walked towards the fitting room."
"The worker called me too fat and lethargic to fit into it. She said that it would look ugly on me, as well, so I went into the fitting room to try it on and she started to get pissed."
"She started talking shit about e to my other friends saying that trans people should be dead; brought out back and shot."
"Then one of my friends cursed her out; after that, I came out of the fitting room with the clothes I liked, and then they said we needed to leave."
"We don't want your kind here."
I asked my friend if they were able to catch the name of the elderly staff member who was doing this. To which they responded along the lines of something like this:
"Unfortunately, the Wal-Mart here, it's no longer mandatory to wear them; they're giving people the option to wear their name tags."
So, unfortunately, I do not know the name of the elderly staff member who did this.
My friend contacted the corporate office to discuss what had occurred in one of their stores. From what I understand, the employee who did this was fired and is no longer working in this location.
However, the corporate office can't revoke my friend's one-month ban, and cannot do anything about the $150+ ticket they received. Sadly, my friend is still responsible for paying this amount within the 30 days, or they will face jail time for a minimum of 3 months.
Any extra funds they receive from this fundraiser will go towards my friend's medical expenses.
Again, thank you to anyone who can donate and/or share this fundraiser.
Every little bit helps.
Cost Breakdown:
$150.00 will be used towards the legal battle
$200.00 will be used towards medical expenses
$150.00 will be used towards food and toiletries
