Help Ghanaian Students Learn in Better Conditions
Donation protected
On December 2nd of 2024 I made a trip to Ghana, Africa to visit my wife's family and have a look at the progress on the house she was building. While there I visited and offered the opportunity to speak to a group of 125 teachers about how I overcame cancer in the last 2 years. After speaking to the teachers, I was invited to speak to a class of Freshman young students about my recovery from cancer. While there with the kids I tried to instill a positive mental attitude and express that in their future they could be doctors, lawyers, teachers or anything they set their mind to, even the president of the country.
My greatest take away from the meeting with the kids was how much in awe I was of the conditions they endure daily! Dirt floor, no fans, no electricity, no windows, no doors and desks that need to be thrown in the trash. All the girls were dressed in bright yellow uniforms, bobby socks and patent leather shoes. The boys were all dressed in white shirts and nice slacks, so the kids were dressed pretty well. But having to go to school in those conditions truly made me cry as in America we have marble floors, vaulted glass ceilings that we all take for granted.
I have a general contractor who is willing to rejuvenate one room at a time with new concrete floors, new windows and doors as well as electricity with fans installed. Also, the room will be painted, and new desks will be provided with the help of the 'Go Fund Me' help that I'm looking for.
These kids are truly beautiful with smiles and a good attitude even though they are being educated in these conditions. Having one room improved will truly have a great impact on me as I have it in my heart to help them. I hope the public will have as much vision as I do, and we all can enjoy the benefits of changing these young lives!
