My name is Laela Ateah, I am a high school student in Vancouver, and I'm hoping to raise money for the most amazing school in Mexico.
Transformar Educando AC is a school located in Puerto Aventuras, QR, Mexico. It offers education to children of all ages and adults.
The children who attend this school often only attend part-time, as many have to work throughout the day, have disabilities that restrict them, or are needed to take care of siblings. Most children walk to the school on the days they can go, some walking up to 1.5/2 hours to get there as their parents and family cannot drive them.
The school itself offers a few things that set it apart from a basic school. This includes a meal program, in which it feeds the children who attend breakfast and lunch free of charge, a computer lab, and a new classroom, separate from the school, protected by bars and locks, in which women and girls suffering from abuse can receive a basic education. The school also has a sewing room, where children are taught to sew and create clothing, a skill that is very useful in their communities and can help give the children the requirements for some jobs.
The teacher and directors at this school are dedicated and caring, organizing fundraisers and providing support to the individuals attending the school. The children themselves are vibrant and happy. Every time I have visited the school, they welcome me with open arms.
I have visited this school many times during my time spent in Mexico. My family and I always love to donate our money, time, and food and always know that this school is an amazing cause with the best intentions.
I will be traveling from my home in Vancouver to the school in December 2019 and would love to have funds to deliver to them. I am aiming for $3000 CAD, but keeping in mind that even a Canadian dollar goes far in Mexico, anything helps.
