Hi, my name is Makiya James, and I teach financial literacy and technology at Friendship Woodridge. I’ve been given the exciting opportunity to lead a project that will transform our library into the Woodridge Media Center, a space where students can explore, create, and grow through hands-on experiences with technology.
This shift isn’t about replacing books it’s about expanding what a library can offer. The Media Center will continue to support reading and traditional literacy while also introducing students to the tools of the 21st century. As media becomes a central part of how we communicate and learn, students need the skills to both understand and create it.
Our vision is to equip the space with desktop computers, cameras, camcorders, and other creative tools so students can dive into video production, content creation, digital storytelling, programming, and more. Whether they dream of being filmmakers, developers, or entrepreneurs, this space will give them the opportunity to build real-world skills in a supportive and inspiring environment.
Your support will directly fund the equipment and resources needed to bring this vision to life. Every donation big or small helps us create a space where students can thrive creatively, academically, and personally.
Thank you for helping us build something meaningful for our students and school community.
With gratitude,
Ms.James
