This fundraiser is for my son Kai, he is 11 years old and was born without a right hand. My goal is to raise $24,000 to provide Kai with a bionic arm. Our family has recently faced other unexpected medical and financial challenges. I was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder in 2023, and it's taken me almost 2 years to recover from it.
To make things more difficult, our health insurance offers no support for prosthetic/bionic limbs, so we are attempting to raise $24k to fund a Hero Arm.
Kai is a vibrant, loving child who approaches life with boundless enthusiasm. Despite his physical differences, he has a heart full of kindness and a spirit that knows no limits. While he doesn't let his missing hand hold him back, the challenges of middle school are likely to take a toll on his self-confidence.
Last year, he faced relentless teasing and bullying from children at school and on the school bus. The constant taunts and hurtful comments left him feeling isolated and vulnerable, and he became withdrawn.
Kai will start middle school next August. We know how brutal middle school can be for anyone, but with a limb difference, the challenges can be even greater. We want to equip him with the tools he needs to face these challenges with confidence and resilience for middle, high school, and beyond.
Hero Arm would be life-changing for Kai. It would not only improve his physical capabilities, allowing him to perform everyday tasks with greater ease and independence but also boost his self-esteem. The ability to blend in with his peers and participate fully in activities without drawing unwanted attention would significantly reduce the emotional burden he carries. A prosthetic arm would give him the confidence to face the world head-on, free from the fear of judgment and embarrassment.
