Trans Women Immigrate & Study in Canada

Hello, my name is Raiden and I am a 24 year old trans woman originally from Oklahoma. Over the course of the last two years my girlfriend Piper and I have been going through the process of moving to live with our girlfriend Lan in Ontario for fear of our own personal safety with the growing dangers in the United States as well as for the sake of our relationship and survival. We do not have anywhere else to go and do not want to find ourselves homeless especially in the current political climate nor do we want to leave our girlfriend alone again.

Throughout the last year, I have acquired my GED and been accepted into a local college, however due to delays with Visa processing and government paperwork we were unable to get visas in time for me to start in May and it has been pushed back to September. Due to it being pushed back we need to make additional tuition payments. My girlfriend Piper's work visa is also reliant on my study permit. We've been unable to get insurance due to our current visa situation meaning we have been without consistent HRT or general medical care throughout the last year since moving. I have injuries from working multiple jobs to get here that have gone untreated. Piper and I both have mental conditions that have gone untreated as well.

Along with this, Lan recently lost her job and though we've been receiving money from Employment Insurance most of it has gone towards bills, rent, food, and medical expenses (emergencies, medications, as well as a variety of physical disabilities and mental conditions between the three of us). This has left us struggling to wade through debts and loan payments. Piper and I are obviously willing to work (on top of myself gong to school) but we're unable to until our visa situation is resolved.

Even in Canada, while it is better than the States, it is difficult for trans women to get work and with all 3 of us being trans we frequently find ourselves being harassed and turned away from opportunities. Obviously with there being three of us as well things are not as simple as just getting legally married and figuring it out from there. We have put two years of hard work into this and we do not have any other options remaining.
