THE BODY POLITIC, a new musical about transgender and Muslim discrimination in North Carolina, is heading to the 2017 New York Musical Festival!
THE BODY POLITIC is about a transgender man from Afghanistan who moves to NC at the height of the Afghan War. After premiering in 2016 at the Boston Center for the Arts, the show made worldwide headlines (New York Times, UK's Daily Mail, Boston Globe, Miami Herald, etc.) as the first opera or musical to be performed for a state legislature, when it was presented at the North Carolina General Assembly in response to HB2, the "bathroom bill".
The New York Musical Festival (NYMF) has launched 4 Broadway shows, including one that won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The guys who wrote LaLa Land started here! And due to its subject matter, THE BODY POLITIC is being touted as the show to see not only by the festival but by the press at large.
Many of the productions at NYMF cost between $100,000-120,000. But we have worked with our General Managers to reduce our budget to around $65,000. With that in mind we are employing around 40 people over the course of 6 months, and have the opportunity for international exposure.
With enough support, we hope to eventually tour this production to high schools and universities across America, to foster empathy in communities facing LGBT or Muslim discrimination. With your support, this story could have a big impact on kids nationwide.
Separate from our GoFundMe campaign, we have recently received 501(c)3 fiscal sponsorship through NYMF. So, if you prefer to make a non-profit donation, instead of a GoFundMe gift, click here to make a TAX-DEDUCTIBLE DONATION.
Check out our SHOW WEBSITE HERE , and I hope, if you get the chance, that you will consider joining us at the New York Musical Festival July 18-23 in NYC for our biggest premiere yet!
