Help Amanda & Dre Find Safety, Stability, and a Path Forward.
Amanda and Dre are a trans couple fighting every day to stay safe, housed, and fed. Since losing their jobs and being evicted, they’ve been living day-to-day—sometimes in a cheap motel, sometimes in a tent, sometimes without shelter at all. They don’t have a vehicle, so every time they’re forced to leave a place, they can only carry what they can manage on foot.
Some days, they go without food. Some nights, they stay awake just trying to survive, too vulnerable to sleep in unsafe places.
I first learned about their situation this past winter. They were trying to stay alive in below-freezing temperatures after being assaulted and kicked out of a church-run warming shelter—simply for being trans. I saw them posted on Facebook every night, begging for shelter and safety. Friends and strangers chipped in here and there to help them through the worst of it, but what they really need now is a path to stability.
Why Now?
Amanda has a background in software development. Recently, she ran into a project manager she used to work with who said his company is hiring—and told her she’s “better than 80% of the people who’ve worked for him.” He offered her an interview.
She’s hopeful. She’s updated her resume. She’s ready.
But getting back on your feet is nearly impossible when you're homeless. You need a place to get clean, sleep, and recharge. You need reliable transportation, food, and time to bridge the gap until that first paycheck comes in.
That’s why I want to raise funds. To give Amanda and Dre a real shot at getting off the streets for good.
What We’re Raising For:
- Used cargo van (runs reliably, can be lived in if needed): $4,000
- Motel stay for six weeks while job hunting or working: $2,000
- Bare minimum for groceries/basic food for six weeks: $600
- Bus fare, phone service, basic needs: $400
Total Goal: $7,000
They are determined, resourceful, and hopeful—but they need a real safety net, not just a trickle of help. If Amanda gets this job, these funds will help them survive the transition. If she doesn’t, the van gives them a safer place to live and regroup.
If you can give, please do. Even a small amount helps. If you can’t donate, sharing this fundraiser could make a difference.
It is getting harder and harder to be trans and safe in this country. Please, still get angry, loud, and speak out about the injustices happening right now. So many of our trans brothers and sisters have lost jobs and homes.
This is an opportunity to help real people who need your help right now... at a critical time and possible turning point in their lives. These people really need our support.
Thank you for reading, and thank you for caring. <3
