Save Trans Lives: 78 trans, hijrah, kinnar people in India are being sustained by our micro-entrepreneurship funds. This Pride month we need YOUR HELP to sustain and grow these small businesses!

Overview
SITAL (Save Indian Trans AllINDIA Lives) emerged from 2021 COVID relief efforts focused on Indian trans, hijra, intersex, third gender, and non-binary communities facing unprecedented neglect, isolation, infection, and starvation during the COVID-19 second wave in India. Now we continue to support the thriving livelihood projects started in 2021. See our youtube channel, instagram, and website gallery for documentation of all our amazing livelihood projects!!

Details
In 2021 at the height of India's second-wave COVID-19 outbreak, ParivarBayArea launched SITAL (Save Indian Trans AllINDIA Lives). SITAL is focused on Indian trans, hijra, intersex, non-binary, and other gender minority communities that have been subjected to unprecedented historical neglect, isolation, discrimination, and violence resulting in their social, political, and economical marginalization, and which have been further pushed into a huge crisis of survival because of the 2021 COVID-19 pandemic. It is a strategic pan-India effort working vigorously to support over 50+ communities/birdaris across 23 states, to call attention to the socio-political-economic inclusion of Trans Hijra Kinnar lives in India, and to facilitate community building of LGBTQ+ people centering Trans Hijra folks. Now we are focused on providing continuing support to the rehabilitation efforts and livelihood projects we began in 2021.

After a HUGE showing of support from the community in 2021, we sailed through phase #1, Relief and Recovery (some examples here , here, and here ), where we provided immediate disaster support in the form of medical and food rations, vaccination drives and quarantine housing. We moved quickly onto phase #2, Rehabilitation and Rebuilding, where we stood up 25 small livelihood projects that turned out to be a huge success. Today, 16 livelihood projects are thriving, and growing and require additional funding to expand, employ more transgender, hijrah, and kinnar people, and become self-sustaining. In lieu of this success, we continue to scope and add livelihood projects.

As of now, our livelihood projects employ 78 transgender people & benefit over 130 folks with food and income to live all across India, and we can employ even more. We ask our transgender community and allies to help us continue this powerful, life-sustaining work! For many decades now, the Trans Hijra communities within the South Asian Diaspora have been isolated, neglected, and pushed into further poverty and desperation, given social stigma, false myths, and ignorance. The pandemic furthered our marginalization. Our community was left behind in all the large-scale relief efforts happening internationally and right here at home. We need your valuable help to rebuild from the devastation in the wake of COVID-19. Please support and save our lives.
