in the year of our Lord 2026, i have a tentative appointment for gender-affirming top surgery in early march. this is something ive wanted for over 10 years and will be of great benefit in validating my sense of identity, feeling more comfortable in/as my body, reducing overall feeling of alienation and greasing the wheels of being correctly perceived and treated in public

however, i also live paycheck to paycheck supporting a household of 3-4 mentally unwell transsexuals. while the surgery will not require a lengthy hospital stay, i will not be able to work for at least 2 weeks, with an additional 4 weeks of limited activity. in order to get this surgery, i will need assistance paying for rent and groceries through the recovery process

i have set a goal of $3,000. this should be enough to cover rent, utilities and essentials for a month, plus emergency funds. while i hopefully will be able to get back to work before then, it is as of yet unclear how limited my hours will be, as i will not be able to perform my job without someone else to assist me with vital functions for at least that long
