What is our aim?
We want to participate as presenters in the 10th International Adventure Therapy Conference (IATC) in Taiwan.
Why is this important?
Trans* individuals often face unique barriers to inclusion in outdoor learning experiences. In a world where access to sports and movement-based activities is frequently gatekept, it is crucial to explore what safety truly means for trans*, non-binary, and gender-diverse people in spaces centered around physical activity. We are proposing a workshop that will assist individuals attending the IATC structure safer spaces for trans and queer participants and also explore trans joy in nature and adventure.
Who is participating?
We have put together a team of interdisciplinary trans and LGBTQ2S+ educators, intervention workers, academics and social activist.
Pratyay Malakar is a PhD Research Scholar and the Co-founder of Educators For Equality (E4E), where she leads initiatives to build inclusive, equitable, and affirming learning environments for marginalized children across India. As a Bahujan trans-femme educator, she draws from her lived experiences to center voices from the margins, aiming to reimagine education as a tool for liberation and equity.
Riju is a trans* feminist practitioner, a gender justice activist and an education practitioner practicing inclusive and intersectional pedagogy at Educators For Equality (E4E). Her body of work includes creating safer learning spaces for marginalized young people so that they are able to access knowledge and skills through a system of care. She closely works with young people and adolescents in schools and community settings between the age 8 to 25 across various contexts of India.
Amaru Hidalgo Vela (they/them) was born in Quito, Ecuador where they developed their passion for outdoor play and nature in the Andean Mountain. As a gender-fluid trans feminist, a social activist, and a neurodivergent trailblazer, they have involved themselves in local activism and academic learning. Amaru is a dedicated professional with a robust academic background that combines environmental science and youth work.Passionate about supporting LGBTQ2S+ and migrant populations, they garnered valuable experience in crisis intervention, harm reduction, and counseling.
What we need?
The costs implicated in flying and attending the conference are quite high. We have estimated we are missing a combined budget of 7,000cad$
Asking for funds is never easy, we would like to lean on the power of our extended community.
Help us reach our goal! Any kind of help is much appreciated, if you can not contribute financially at the moment we appreciate that you read this far, and you can contribute by sharing and talking to your friends about this initiative.
Thank you
