Tranquil Oasis, Youth Apprenticeship Program

Donation protected
Many children aging out of Foster Care are falling through the cracks, once they are no longer eligible for supervision services. Your support is greatly needed, as any amount of donation will assist us in filling an unmet need for helping at risk youth.

As a former Social Worker in Child Protective Services, I want to offer Tranquil Oasis, Youth Apprenticeship Program to at risk youth age 18-25, because lots of them end up homeless on the streets, without employment or access to a college education. With our team of experts, we’ve designed a model Youth Apprenticeship Program to teach building and agriculture trades, that will provide training and skills for young people to become gainfully employed and able to take care of themselves in the future, while also facilitating their making better choices in life. That is our ultimate goal.

In addition to having a Master’s Degree in Educational Counseling, I’m also a Certified Yoga Instructor, so our Youth Apprenticeship Program will incorporate Yoga & Meditation Classes to help empower our youth. This is also very personal for me, because I too was once an at risk youth, who dropped out of high school and was a run-away on the street, until a caring adult came into my life and guided me on the right path. So, if I can make it out, anybody can, and I want to give them the skills to do that.

We’re located on 9 acres in the Historical Native American Community of Varnertown/Wassamassaw, in the heart of South Carolina’s Low Country, and just 35 miles from Charleston. Our Muskogee/Creek Gullah-Geechee Heritage goes back over 8 generations in this area. In our program, the youth will receive a 6 month on the job training in either Construction or Agriculture trades. They will also learn how to set up a bank account and budget their income. Lastly, once completing their training, they have the possibility of future employment at Tranquil Oasis, which gives our youth the opportunity to become Instructors of other incoming Trainees in the apprenticeship program, thus continuing to build community and make transformative change.

Our projected start date is July/August 2021 and donations will be used to pay Youth in this 6 month, on the job training program. We also must purchase PPE equipment, building and agricultural supplies for the project. Additionally, I want to offer a stipend to our team of experts who'll be training the youth.
