Trams Outta Palmy (Documentary)

Hi, my name is Nathan. I'm a documentary filmmaker from the Gold Coast and I'm putting together a documentary about the light rail that's going to be built in Palm Beach. If you don't know - Palm Beach is located on the southern Gold Coast. It's a beautiful beachside community that has always been the border between the 'Glitter & Gold' center of of the Gold Coast and the laid back small town vibes of the southern coast.

The documentary will look at how the light rail will effect the building overlays & zoning. Ultimately changing these southern suburbs for history. We'll look at how the tram will be impacting local businesses and give the local community a platform to have a voice. It's our aim to create something that can be used to show the situation that's happening in Palm Beach and why it's so important for communities to have a voice.

We'll look at how the government is not being very responsive to the community's concerns / enquiries and how they've been using skewed statistics to justify their actions.

Over the course of the documentary we'll be sitting down with residence of the area who have lived here for over 40 years, the Jellurgal Aboriginal culture center, architects, town planners and a great deal of Aussie locals. Aiming to ultimately discuss the issues of maintaining a sense of community while the suburb continues to develop.

So why do I need your support?

To create something with such a broad scope while making it high quality takes a lot of time, equipment and facilities to make it all happen. While I own most of the necessary equipment to create the project, I unfortunately don't have the financial freedom to not take up other work in order to focus on this passion project. So the funds will be dedicated to covering: basic expenses, music licence fees, marketing and some additional equipment/labour hire costs for the project.

To give you an idea of the costs that are usually involved when shooting a project like this:

Cameraman: $800-1000/Day

Camera C500mkii: $500/Day

Lighting - $200/Day

Studio Hire: $800/Day

Production Asst/Prod: $500/Day

Editing: $800/Day

= $3800/Day

I've already completed about a week of shooting on the project and have captured a number of great interviews and a massive thanks to Creative Focus Studios for lending the shooting space. Any additional funds achieved over the budget will be put forward to making the documentary better by adding further interviewees, expanding out the project visually and increasing our reach with the marketing budget to ensure that the people who need to see the documentary will.

Please Note:

While our content that we've captured to date is primarily against the light rail being built, we're aiming to take a non-biased approach through production to try and tell the story how it appears to us. This means that we act independently and are open to following the story in what ever path it may take. It's important to note that the decisions on how we represent the ideas and circumstances won't be influenced by any donations, groups or affiliations through this GoFundMe.

Thank-you again for your support!
