Help Shelter Survivor Petey Get the Training He Urgently Needs!

Thanks to shelter volunteers (that’s us) and advocates, young boy, Petey, has survived neglect, abandonment, and most recently the dreaded euthanasia list.
But right now he’s at a critical stage in his life—where professional training is crucial to determine his path forward.
We’ve stepped in to start him on that training, but we can’t do it alone.

Petey’s full background is murky. We know he was picked up by animal control after being left tied up at a park in Los Angeles. After months struggling in a kill shelter, Petey’s owner finally showed up to redeem him. But weeks later, animal control found him abandoned on the city streets once again—and Petey was brought back to that same shelter. His owner did not reply to the shelter staff’s attempts to contact them.

Hours before he was due to be euthanized at the shelter, a caring family stepped up to adopt him, but they soon realized that Petey needed more structure and training than they were equipped to provide.

When they reached out to us, we jumped into action.
We placed him with a trainer we trust who has helped transform many shelter dogs that we’ve advocated for.

Petey is an adorable 2-3 yr old, 45 lbs, playful, terrier/staffy mix who quickly bonds with his person and takes direction well. But, he can also become quickly overstimulated and struggles to regulate himself around people in heightened moments. This can make Petey's behavior unpredictable, and at times unsafe. Petey needs experienced training and guidance to help him work through these behaviors and give him a chance at life in a home.

We’re at a crossroads and this training will determine whether Petey can safely move forward.

Petey has been through so much in his short life, and he deserves a chance to get the structure and stability he has never had. We worked closely with him at the shelter and truly believe he’s worth the shot! We’re personally covering the first 3 weeks of his board-n-train to get him started. But to give him a real chance, he will need closer to 10 weeks of focused training.

To make that happen, we need your help!!

If you can donate, we’re incredibly grateful!
And if you are not able, sharing Petey’s story helps more than you know.

*We’ll be sharing updates as he progresses and working to line up the right foster or adopter for when he’s successfully completed his training.

Let’s get him the chance he’s never had.
