Trailhead: Intentional Time before a Major Life Transition

Donation protected
15 years ago, my family left the United States to begin our life on mission abroad. On May 1st, I returned to the U.S. from Chad, Africa. I also recently completed my high school studies and will begin looking ahead towards my next season of life. These changes mean I must navigate two major transitions at the same time. To help with this process, I will be attending a nine-month work-study program called Trailhead. This program takes place in northern Wisconsin at a family Christian camp called Forest Springs. As described on their website, Trailhead is “A nine-month discipleship program ….born out of a desire to help recent high school graduates hit the pause button on life, plan their next steps, gain independence, and cement their personal faith before entering college or the workforce.”

I chose this program because I am still undecided about which interests I want to pursue for my future. Also, after living most of my life overseas, it will be a good opportunity to further adjust to American culture. During my time in Chad, I was often isolated from a consistent peer group, so I am looking forward to spending time and living in a small community of peers.

During these nine months, I will be working part-time for the camp doing various jobs necessary to run the camp’s other services. I hope this will help me develop a stronger work ethic. I will also be learning life skills necessary for independent living. Staff will walk alongside me to help assess my gifts, interests, and skills, as well as discipling me in my faith. For more information, you can check out their website at https://forestsprings.us/education/trailhead.

Trailhead is able to cut the cost of the program down significantly because the students are working part-time to help run the camp. All of my room and board fees are covered by the camp. However, I will need to pay $3,800 to cover the cost of my student experience. My parents have set aside college funds; however, those funds do not cover this type of program. They have encouraged me to work and raise support through contributions.

Would you prayerfully consider temporarily hiring me to assist with any odd jobs you may have or even contribute directly to this experience financially? I appreciate you considering this on my behalf.
