Hi, my name is Rebekah Schlenker, mom of a 4-month-old. I recently got a job opportunity to be a trail horse guide. I was asked to go to the barn to join the other workers for a ride. I've ridden horses before when I was younger and on/off since I turned 22. We got our horses saddled and headed off to ride through the Kensington horse trails. Everything was going great; we were walking, trotting, and cantering. As the group started picking up the pace to a canter, Vixen, the horse I was riding, bucked me and then ran without me on the saddle. I lost consciousness for a moment, but when I came back, I was in a lot of pain with the other riders next to me. I stood up and decided to get back on Vixen and just walked back to the barn. As soon as I got home, I knew something was wrong. My husband saw me crying and told me, "We're going to the ER now." After hours of tests and exams, I was told I had broken my back, more specifically the L1 and T5. This is my second full day in the hospital, and I have been informed I will not be able to work for anywhere from eight to twelve weeks. I also will need intense physical and occupational therapy, and I'm looking at least another 2 days in the hospital, possibly more. I have a 4-month-old, and due to pregnancy issues, I couldn't work the entire nine months. We struggled, and just as things were looking up and I got the clearance to go back to work (I work in a nursing home as a caregiver), this accident happened. My husband is a technician at a car dealership, but we cannot make it without two incomes. This money will, of course, go to rent, utilities, medical bills, gas to get to appointments, physical therapy, if we need any special equipment for our home, medications, and any leftover money will go into savings or to giving our babygirl a special holiday season. If you can't donate, please share! God bless everyone.
