El 20 de enero de 2026, nuestra familia cambió para siempre. Mary Esther Hurtado Durán, una madre dedicada, hermana admirable y pilar de nuestra familia, perdió la vida en un trágico accidente de tránsito en el Puente de San Mateo, California. Mientras en Venezuela apenas nos llegaba la noticia a través de la televisión y escasas llamadas telefónicas... el 21 de enero, la incertidumbre y el dolor se apoderaron de nosotros.

​Hoy, Mary Esther Hurtado Durán, deja a un hijo, Gabo, de apenas 15 años solo en los Estados Unidos y a su hija mayor, Mariellis, en Alemania, tratando desesperadamente de llegar a su hermano. Como familia en Venezuela, nos sentimos con las manos atadas por la distancia y la realidad económica.

​Nos enfrentamos a una cuenta inmensa que incluye no solo los servicios funerarios, logísticos y legales en California, sino la urgencia de asegurar el bienestar de Gabo y los traslados necesarios para que Mariellis pueda reunirse con Gabo y ser su representante legal, y puedan viajar a Venezuela junto con los restos de su madre.

Cualquier aporte, por pequeño que sea, nos ayudará a que Mary Esther descanse en paz y a que sus hijos no enfrenten esta tragedia en total desamparo.

On January 20, 2026, our family changed forever. Mary Esther Hurtado Durán, a dedicated mother, an admirable sister, and the pillar of our family, lost her life in a tragic car accident on the San Mateo Bridge in California. While the news was just reaching us in Venezuela through television and a few scattered phone calls, by January 21, uncertainty and overwhelming pain had completely taken over.

Today, Mary Esther Hurtado Durán leaves behind a 15 year old son, Gabo, alone in the United States, and her eldest daughter, Mariellis, in Germany, who is desperately trying to reach her brother. As a family in Venezuela, we feel our hands are tied by the distance and our economic reality.

We are facing an immense financial burden that includes not only the funeral, logistical, and legal services in California, but also the urgent need to ensure the well being of Gabo and the necessary travel arrangements so that Mariellis can travel from Germany to the United Stated and bring Gabo, and their mother, back to Venezuela.

Any contribution, no matter how small, will help us ensure that Mary Esther rests in peace and that her children do not face this tragedy in total abandonment.
