Tragic Shooting of Mr. Hamilton
Donation protected
Dear Colleagues,
It is with a heavy heart that we announce another shooting has taken place affecting a member’s husband of our transplant family. On Sunday, November 21st, Crystal Brown’s husband, Omorede "Rico" Hamilton was shot once in the abdomen and twice in the back during an evening with friends in San Francisco. After undergoing two surgeries, he is left with broken ribs, no spleen and only part of his liver and pancreas. He is now in recovery and makes progress every day. There will be a long healing journey ahead of him and the family.
He is very strong willed, and remains grateful to the doctors who saved his life. Recently, he was able to sit in a chair and will hopefully have the tube feeds removed in the coming days. Crystal’s four children (Ayinde, Mwanee, Maziah, Nyete) are thankful to still have their father and look forward to his homecoming, as are we.
Omorede worked for the San Francisco Violence Intervention Program for 7 years (SFVIP) and recently accepted a job offer with the San Francisco Human Rights Commission as a Liaison. Unfortunately, due to the recent career transition, Crystal is left as the sole wage earner for the family.
For those that would like to help support Crystal and her family during this time, please consider donating to the GoFundMe page here: https://gofund.me/a0f26469. Your support and generosity will go a long way in easing the burden and allow them to focus on healing and moving forward from this trauma.
With gratitude,
UCSF Transplant

UPDATE as of 12/3/2021:
I would like to thank you all for your beautiful support during this difficult chapter in our lives. My husband is making wonderful progress as the days pass. He had one of his ports removed and will have feeding tubes removed today! He is truly a living example of strength and endurance. My family and I are grateful for his life and for also having such a solid support system in all of you. Our children are especially thankful.
With love,
Crystal Brown-Hamilton ❤️

UPDATE as of 12/6/2021:
Omorede has been off of tube feeds since Friday afternoon and is tolerating soups and soft foods pretty well. He took a walk around the unit yesterday and even tried a little shimmy leg dance against my wishes. Lol. But if you know him, you know he’s a dancer at heart. And in fact, his first question to the doctors was “Will I be able to dance again?” Thank you all for your continued support and prayers. Our family is truly blessed.
With love,
Crystal Brown-Hamilton ❤️

UPDATE as of 12/9/2021:
The last week has been one filled with continuous progress for Omorede. He is eating, walking , laughing and getting stronger day by day. His wounds are healing nicely and we are told that he should be set to discharge by the weekend! He has set a schedule for himself to walk a certain distance everyday, and maintain his breathing exercises. He’s eating well! And has already placed an order with the nurses for an Oreo shake. Lol. Even though it will be a while for his favorite snacks, it’s so reassuring that he is ready to get back to his normal self but a much stronger version.
Thank you all for your prayers and support. It is truly working!
With Love,

Morning to all,
On behalf of my husband, family and I, we just wanted to personally thank you for all of your support, prayers, and continuous thoughtfulness.
We have truly been comforted throughout this entire ordeal and are so very grateful for you all. My husband is really healing nicely and although he has good days and not so good days, he remains positive and determined.
Below is a news clip (in case you missed it) of an interview we’ve done thus far and anticipate more as we are still in the process of the investigation.
Best,
Crystal
