My name is Travis. I’m raising funds for my best friend and nephew, John. Today, John’s family went through unimaginable loss.
At 10:15 am, John was woken up by Michelle screaming that the house was on fire. John was asleep in his bedroom on the first floor. His dad had just started a fire in the wood stove and left for work like they have done a million times before. An hour or less later, something (the fire department said possibly an animal) lodged into the chimney. It made the wood stove inside the home explode. The home caught fire.
Graphic
John woke up to his home on fire. They got everyone out but Cali, who was asleep upstairs in her bedroom. John didn’t think twice. He ran through the fire and smoke and saved Cali's life. They are both in the ICU needing prayers and support. This event is life-changing. John is burned on 61% of his body with 2nd and 3rd degree burns. Cali has a few burns and smoke inhalation, but thankfully she is okay. John is not. He has a very, very long recovery ahead. He is a loving father of three beautiful kids. He is an amazing dad who would do anything for those kids. He would have given his life today.
The home is a complete loss and all vehicles outside the home have extreme heat damage. Yes, they do have homeowners insurance, but that takes time. I’m asking for anyone to come forward and help in any way possible. They have to start over from nothing.
Cali and John will both heal with visible scars and trauma from this event, but today God laid his hand on Cali and provided a way to save her.
To add to the horrible situation, today is Rose's (John's oldest) birthday. She turned 7. Now her little sister and dad are both in the hospital with no idea when they will be home and a family again. They need support now more than ever.
A hero, a dad, a true man! John, you are the strongest person I know. Cali is alive because you didn’t give up. You walked through fire for your child.
