Our beloved mother, Margarita Arevalo, and stepfather, Javier Reyes, tragically lost their lives in a devastating house fire. In an instant, we not only lost them but also the home that had been the heart of our family.
Our family came to this country as migrant farm workers, working side by side for years to achieve the dream of owning a home. That house represented decades of sacrifice, love, and memories. In recent years, our mom became disabled and lived on a fixed income, which sadly meant the home was uninsured.
The fire was so severe that more than half of the house had to be demolished immediately. The rest now stands in dangerous ruins, surrounded by piles of debris—wood, brick, roofing, and personal belongings destroyed by the fire. Before we can begin any form of rebuilding or restoration, the property must be cleared completely.
We’ve been working by hand for weeks, but this is no small task. Without heavy equipment, progress is slow and exhausting. Your donation will go directly toward the urgent costs of property cleanup, debris removal, and making the space safe again.
If you can’t donate, please share this page with others who may be able to help. Every dollar, every share, and every kind message moves us one step closer to clearing the fire’s destruction and honoring the memory of our mom and stepdad.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with us through this.
With love and gratitude,
Raquel Arevalo & Family
