Hi,my name is Kerstin and I am fundraising for my daughter's best friend and her family. My daughter's friend is Aviva who moved last year from Winkler, and she is the greatest little girl. Her mom (Miriam James-Decker) is an amazing mom, and she has 5 siblings. (I hope this is accurate, my info is from a 12 year old LOL). The children range from teen to infant/toddler-aged. Although Aviva's parents were not together, they did a great job at co-parenting. On the weekend while the kids were out with their father (Samuel James-Decker), they were in a tragic car accident the weekend of March 7th, 2026. The kids are all okay, but sadly their dad was pronounced deceased at the scene. We have limited info from mom other than the kids are ok and may not be in school, but she was so worried her friends would be worried about her that she reached out to us parents during this trying time. I am unsure who will cover funeral expenses, but some of that could potentially help as well. I am hoping she may have to worry a little less especially being newer to Wolseley, and Winnipeg, not to mention the likely mental health toll this may have on the kids as they grow and making sure their needs are met with the sudden change. I didn't want to post their picture without permission, but I will definitely try to get a family picture when life is a little less tough. Her small group of friends from school are really her rock, and our collective parents of the friend group thought we can help in this way and that others may be willing to help. It takes a village. We are also going to ask if maybe the school can have a movie fundraiser night but we are unsure of the rules and what not that apply with recent changes to fundraising that schools are allowed to participate in Manitoba. I have reached out to the principal, and we will do what we can as a community. Please find it in your heart to donate, and help this family during this truly tragic event.
