Tragic Car Accident Leaves Richard in Need of Help

Donation protected
One week ago, on a beautiful Sunday we received a call everyone dreads to get, our family member Richard Reyes, age 71, who was on his way to a side job on Sorensen Ave, near Norwalk Blvd. when his truck was hit by a car driving at a very high speed and out of control. The driver had hit several parked cars and lost control of the vehicle, sending the car airborne and landing on top of Richard’s truck. The police estimated that the other car’s speed was in excess of over 90 miles an hour.

Richard had to be cut out of his vehicle with the Jaws of Life. His injuries are extensive and has undergone several major emergency operations. In order to try to save his right leg and in particular, his right foot and ankle, which had to be reattached surgically. His sternum was cracked in half and his right bicep muscle tore from his arm, requiring surgery at a later time to be reattached.

The family cannot get any information from the police. We do know that the driver of the other car that slammed into Richards truck at over 90 mph died instantly and upon impact. We don’t know the age, the sex, nor name of the other party involved. Police won’t release information since it is now vehicular homicide crime investigation. Richard doesn’t have medical insurance; nor do we know if the deceased driver had any insurance.

Richard, according to police and medical, was very fortunate to be alive today but faces a very long and painful recovery.

Richard is a very extraordinary man. He is someone who will go out of his way to help others on a regular basis. A very unselfish person, the nicest guy ever. His faith is his guidance and how he lives; he is a very spiritual person whom we Know God is protecting. My heart goes out to him and his wife Debbie.

Needless to say, the medical costs and bills will be outrageous.  It’s our family’s duty to do what we can to assist our dear friend through thus very difficult period to recovery and hope to be able to help him by driving funds to pay his medical bills through this GoFundMe drive.

Our goal is to be able to get $100, 000 through various donations.
