Tragic Accident While Watching the Stars.
On Aug 18th, 19-year-old Faith Collins fell asleep outside while watching for shooting stars near her home in Alton, MO. In a freak accident, she was run over by a vehicle while she slept.
Faith was life-flighted from the scene to a trauma center in Springfield, MO where she went through major spinal surgery, and is now receiving medical care.
She is currently attending college at MSU West Plains, and has been getting ready to return to college this week. As a result of this life-altering accident, she is paralyzed from the waist down.
In addition to the family's overwhelming emotional and physical burdens, Faith does not have any medical insurance. Her family is working hard to help her get coverage. It looks like it will be a long and challenging process. Unfortunately, Faith needs to get into a rehab hospital as soon as possible, in order for her to have the best chance at regaining as much function as possible.
There is Hope! With her age, healthy history and with the severity of her injury, she qualifies for the BEST rehab facilities in the country! At one of these facilities, she would be able work at regaining as much function as possible, and help keep her impacting the world around her with her light!
The costs, however, are prohibitive. The average cost of the inpatient rehab that will provide her with the care she needs is over $400,000. Faith is as bright as the stars she was wishing on and is a light in her community. She has been attending college at MSU, works with sustainable farming, is a bee keeper, a champion chess player, plays the violin, rides horses, and even visits her elderly neighbors at Christmastime, on horseback, to deliver them cookies. I hope that you will join me and come alongside this family to see what we can do to help them shoulder this heavy financial burden. Please give and help Faith in her journey to recovery. Any donations will help so much! Thank you for your time, prayers, and generosity! You can follow here on FB for updates. Please like and share! Here is a personal message from one of her professors.
Faith Collins is one of the most gifted and motivated students I have ever encountered, whether in my nearly four years teaching at Baylor University or my thirty-three years teaching at Missouri State University – West Plains. Only a sophomore, Faith has already published significant scholarly work in a refereed academic journal, and in the Spring 2022 semester she served as general editor of the juried publication Elder Mountain: A Journal of Ozarks Studies. I don’t know of any other student who would be trusted with such responsibilities. She does all this work in addition to stellar performances in a wide range of general education classes. If anyone is deserving of aid, it is certainly this fine young woman.
