Tragic Accident- Help Amy Mathis
Donation protected
on Friday, May 18, Amy Mathis was involved in a very serious accident on the Garden State Parkway. The car that she was a passenger in struck the concrete barrier. After the initial accident, Amy was pulled from the car when she was struck by a vehicle passing by. The driver of the original vehicle fled the scene.
As a result, Amy sustained major injuries: a c1 fracture (otherwise known as a broken neck), a lower lumbar fracture, a broken clavicle, a severely broken ankle in which the bone has been exposed, multiple facial fractures and swelling/a bleed in her brain.
While performing surgery on her spine, her surgeons learned that she has some nerve damage, too.
So far, the doctors in Amy’s care seem optimistic that she’ll pull through. She is in stable, but very critical condition and is currently receiving treatment at Jersey Shore Medical Center in their neurological ICU.
When paramedics arrived on the scene, they were initially calling it a fatal accident. We are so fortunate and beyond blessed to still have her here. While she’s made it through the deepest part of the woods, she’s far from out. She’s still on a respirator and was not ready to come off when doctors tried as of Sunday afternoon.
She went into the hospital as a “Jane Doe” and her mother has no photo identification for Amy. It’s a long process with Admissions to get Amy identified in their system. As a result of this, they have no proof of insurance to bill her medical costs. Amy’s mother is currently traveling back and forth between Maryland and New Jersey to be with her daughter and could use any help with medical costs and travel expenses.
Thank you all for your time and prayers. The family will keep everyone updated.
