Tragedy of a devastated mother
“Our beautiful princess Vinuthi Ehalape Gamage 5 years old was taken from us too soon”, words spoken by heartbroken mother Dinusha Nimanthi Gamage. On Sunday 7th of April 2019, 5-year-old Vinuthi was involved in a fatal car accident on the Sturt Highway in Robinvale. Vinuthi was in the car with her little brother Seniru Ehalape Gamage 3 years old, Grandmother Kusumawathi Eramudhugoda Gamage and father Tharanga Ehalape Gamage when the fatal accident took place. Unfortunately Vinuthi and her grandmother Kusumawathi lost their lives and her brother Seniru and her father Tharanga were taking to hospital with critical injuries.
Dinusha joined her husband in Australia in 2012 from Sri Lanka. Saying farewell to her beloved family and starting her new joyful chapter of life full of wonders. Despite the new challenges she knew she would encounter she was confident together with her partner Tharanga, they would be overcome them together and they would have a happy life in Australia.
She faced many cultural and linguistic challenges throughout this time but understood that the needs of her children far exceeded her own. In face of this, Dinusha continued to work hard in improving her language skills at local English classes and started to engage more within the community. Dinusha never imagined her new peaceful life could go upside down and fade away right in front of her in seconds.
Her devastation on the 7th April began when police came to her place around 6pm and informed that her son was in hospital with critical injuries and that her husband had been flown to Melbourne for further surgery. She was then told that Vinuthi had passed away.
With no family in Australia to support or help her through this hard time we are looking to the community for any help or support that can be offered. Any donation no matter how small would be gratefully appreciated as plans for Vinuthi’s final send-off start to be discussed. A mother cannot do all this alone.
