Anybody who has met Emily & Tradie know they are a special pair with an incredible bond. We would love to help her with the rising vet costs as a result of this tragedy and cant imagine anyone more deserving of support in such a difficult time.
"On Monday night, my worst nightmare came true. I came home to find Tradie in the paddock with his leg cut open down to the bone. I called the vet straight away and then we took him to an equine hospital which was an hours drive away. He was sedated and then cleaned, stitched and bandaged up. He has had some X-rays done and has unfortunately fractured his tibia. At the moment it’s looking like the fracture will fuse back together but we won’t know for sure until they take more X-rays in about a weeks time. As long as he keeps still and the fracture doesn’t extend into the joint he has about an 80% chance of recovery at this point.
He will stay at the hospital for 4 weeks and then it will be at least 3-4 months before he can undergo any surgery as he can’t move at the moment with the fracture. Overall he’s looking at about 9 months of intensive recovery, and his movement will have to be restricted for most of that time.
Obviously this is all going to cost quite a lot but I’m prepared to do anything and everything to help him heal. I don’t know what will happen in the long term yet but we will take each day as it comes, if all goes well he could make a full recovery but it is going to be a long and hard journey for him. Right now I am just feeling grateful he is still alive, he was also extremely close to severing his vein.
Please don’t ask questions about how it happened as we have no idea. I will try and keep you guys updated with his progress. It couldn’t of happened at a worse time as we were supposed to be moving back to university this weekend. I’m hoping I will eventually be able to get him up there with me but it will be a while before he can withstand the 6 hour drive.
This is such a huge shock and I am beyond shattered see him like this, but he is in the best hands and I’m hopeful he will pull through. He’s being a good patient so far, so fingers crossed everything goes well for him. I love you so much Tradie ❤️❤️❤️"
