Tracy Loren (Tootle) - Living Donor Recovery

Hey all. My name is Tracy Kay Loren and I’ve graciously volunteered to donate a portion of my liver to childhood friend, Jennifer Petrea Marshall. I must be crazy, right?

 

Jennifer was diagnosed with non-alcoholic cirrhosis: hepatic encephalopathy and hepatic pulmonary lung disease and needs a liver transplant ASAP. The surgery is scheduled for December 14th at Emory Hospital in Atlanta. As most of you know, my mama received a double lung transplant at the same hospital in 2004, so organ donation is near & dear to my heart.

 

Jennifer’s health insurance will ONLY cover the costs of the surgery; not lodging, travel, or meals associated with my post-op stay in Atlanta or my household expenses while I am in recovery. I will be required to stay in Atlanta for up to 2 weeks (1 week in the hospital and 1 week in a recovery center). I will be using short-term disability through my employer but unfortunately, it only covers ½ of my paycheck. I don’t know about you, but I barely get by on a full paycheck.

 

If you can’t donate, please say a prayer on December 14th for the skills and steady hands of the surgeons as well as the OR staff and all others involved. Also pray for the comfort for our families and friends - they will surely need it.
