Many of you know my husband Paul, and if you know him, you know he gives 110% to everything he does and that includes the rescue, even though horses aren't his thing.

He makes this rescue run, from locating hay, finding us the best prices, hauling it, feeding it, to everything else that makes this possible, we jokingly say it would take 5 people to replace him.

Unfortunately, we had occasion to test that theory recently when he was pulling bales from the hay barn to feed to the horses and one accently fell from the top of the stack (5 high, 800 pound bales) onto his head.  Miraculously, he was not killed instantly, but he did suffer a compression fracture of the c2 vetabrea as well as a hairline fracture of his sternum along with severe muscle strain and tears.  In 20 years of marraige to this man  I have never ONCE seen him call off work from his "real" job with Napa but he obviously had no choice. 

I think it bothered him greatly but it also was hard for him to let others help out here at the rescue.  It literally took more then 5 people to do the work that he does in a day around here.  This was compounded by the fact that when the hay bale fell, it damaged the tractor beyond repair.

We are desperately in need of a new tractor and hope that all of you out there who have known us and had your lives touched by my husband and his giving nature would help us make it so this never happens to him again.
