Those of you that know Tracey know that she is a funny, upbeat, and positive thinking person. On September 29th, she, with her husband Henry, went to her ophthalmologist because she was having difficulty with the vision in her right eye. Eighteen hours and many doctors later, they ended up in a neurosurgeon’s office where she was told that she had a brain tumor behind her right eye, very close to her pituitary gland and carotid artery. Tracey underwent surgery on Dec. 1st. A good part of the tumor was removed and thankfully it was benign. A half hour after the surgery, even though there were tears in her eyes from the pain, she was making jokes with her sister and the nurses. For several weeks after the surgery, Tracey had no vision whatsoever in her right eye. Yet, she still remained positive. She has regained minimal vision in her right eye. However, the rest of the tumor is right behind her left optic nerve. Radiation is needed to remove the tumor. The question is when, as it could cause her to lose all vision in her right eye. If they wait, the tumor could grow and the vision in her left eye would be affected. The team of doctors will be meeting to discuss the risk vs. benefits of when to do the radiation.
Tracey is a licensed clinical social worker working as an independent contractor. That means that there was no income and no disability for the seven weeks she was not working. Even when she returned to work, she could not see as many clients so her income was drastically reduced. While she and her family are covered by Henry’s health insurance, the total of the copays and deductibles exceeds $10,000. Any out of network expenses and medications will be even more. As she starts radiation the costs will contine to rise. We hope to raise funds to offset these costs so that Tracey can focus on her health and her family. If you cannot contribute monetarily that is understandable; your prayers, visits, babysitting offers, dinners, cards, calls, and texts are greatly appreciated. There is still a long road to recovery and any support you can give will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your consideration and for your prayers.
