Stephen’s Story

Our family received the pathology results from my brother Stephens doctors at Jefferson last week. It was not the words we wanted to hear, his tumor was confirmed to be Glioblastoma Multiforme. For those of you that don’t know, it’s the most aggressive form of brain cancer one can have. The prognosis, is not what any family would want to hear.  Utter devastation is the only way to describe the feeling you get when you hear those words.

But Stephen, if your lucky enough to know him, is just not your ordinary guy.  He just excels at everything he does, from being the best at a sport he never really played, but figured he’d try, to playing in a band, when he has never taken a music lesson.  But the thing that shines the brightest, sticks out the most about my brother, well, he is most definitely one of the best husbands and dads I have ever seen.  He and his wife Ruthie, they are a team like no other, high school sweethearts that have been married for 32 years.  And the way he is with his two boys, Stephen Jr. and Nicholas, is something all of us should strive to be like.

So as we journey into this scary place. We know he won’t be any ordinary fighter and he certainly won’t be alone. We are all here, the big old family that trampled in and out of your hospital room these past few weeks. Oh we are here, and we will fight with you, love you and always be here for you every step of the way.

Please help us support my brother through this time.  He is unable to work and drive. He will start a rigorous treatment plan along with a specific diet to help keep him strong and deter tumor growth.  We are hoping to alleviate as much as of the financial burden as we can, so our brother can focus on healing and beating this beast. He is a Lombardi, he is strong and he will win this battle!
