Coons Family Support: Home Projects and Golf Cart

Let's help Geoff and his family enter the next phase of this fight.  They will have a number of home access projects and improvements to make, so this support will go a long way to helping get work done quickly.

In addition, the Coons' have a vibrant neighborhood and community and a golf cart will be really helpful and fun for Geoff and the gang.  We'll also need to soup it out in Gamecocks colors if we're doing right by him ;)

Please support and share!

For those who don’t know the background, here is the message Geoff’s wife Jennifer posted to caringbridge:

I have to say I never thought we would be here again... fighting cancer, that is, and facing another surgery. 18 years after the first time, 15 years after the second time, and 3 kids later. Allow me catch everyone up.

In March 2020, after 6 months and a myriad of appointments trying to identify the cause of his back pain, Geoff was diagnosed with radiation induced osteosarcoma. Yep, that's right, the radiation he received in 2002 to help fight colo-rectal cancer actually caused this tumor that we're fighting today. They found a large, very aggressive tumor in his right illiac bone (pelvis). Due to the amount of radiation received before, more radiation was not an option. From April through August, he went through 6 rounds of chemotherapy in which he had to be hospitalized for 3 nights/4 days each time. The chemo helped shrink the tumor some, but surgery is still required. It's a bone tumor, growing in and from the illiac bone. It is affecting the sciatic nerve, femoral vessels, and it has infected the hip joint It has to be removed. We knew it would be a big surgery from the start, but this is really big.

On Friday, October 2, 2020, Geoff will have surgery to remove the right half of his pelvis and right leg. It will be a very long surgery (12-15 hours we are told). He will be in the hospital for a week or so and then spend another few weeks in an in-patient rehabilitation facility before coming home. He has a very long road ahead of him...we have a long road ahead of us.

I will use this caring bridge site to provide updates along the way. We are thankful for all of the support we have received thus far. We ask for your continued prayers. We know that God is with us and He is for us. Geoff is not done fighting... and so we fight.

Romans 12:12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
