Hi friends,
I thought I’d never have to make a post like this, and it pains me to say that Stella is going to need an MPL + TPLO knee leg surgery ASAP.
Unfortunately, a few days ago, my younger siblings took my dog on a walk, and a stranger's off-leash dog charged at her, completely running her over, causing her to tear her ACL and pop her knee out of place. My dog was left crying in the grass, and as my sister went to check on her, the owner took off, and we have not been able to find him since.
For those of y’all that know me personally, y’all know I would go to the ends of the earth for my dog, and she’s the whole reason why I do what I do today. Being in the field, I never thought this would someday happen to me, nor would I be stuck in the same position any owner would be in, especially as a 24-year-old RVT with fresh student loans.
Unfortunately, without the owner's information, and both my siblings being underage, I am left with figuring out and managing Stella’s care and rehabilitation while still managing to work as a vet tech. She is only 6 years old and can never sit still, and I’d hate to take that from her, her freedom to move, especially so soon. If I were to leave her untreated, it could possibly develop into a hip issue and much worse, and I don’t want her to suffer any longer than she should.
This year hasn’t been the greatest so far for everyone, and I’m not asking you to donate, but I’m asking that you share this post around and help it gain traction. Even if you cannot donate, I’m hoping you can spread awareness about patella luxations, orthopedic surgeries in dogs, and help spread the word so other owners are educated and other pets don’t have to go through this as well.
Once again, I truly appreciate you all even for just reading, and I hope everyone has a blessed rest of their year.
With love always :)
Mass
