Hello, my name is Shauna and I have set up this page in support of my good friend, Davina. Davina is a warm, caring stay at home mother to six children, ranging in age from 5 weeks to 10 years. Until recently, Davina had the support of her husband in caring for her children. However, during her recent pregnancy, her husband informed her that he wanted a divorce.
As Davinas friend, I was privy to her situation during her pregnancy. She was under tremendous stress due to the impending dissolution of her marriage. She was constantly exhausted and experienced extreme nausea and vomiting, right up until the delivery of her baby. As a mother to two children myself, I am familiar with pregnancy ailments, but Davinas condition was severe. After several trips to the doctor and no relief in sight, it became clear that her ailments were a physical manifestation of the tremendous stress and emotional turmoil that she had been experiencing.
Her husband knew, and shared with Davina, that under Texas law, divorcing her during her pregnancy was not legal. He informed her that after the birth of their baby (and I reiterate, their SIXTH baby) he would be putting things in motion to dissolve their marriage.
Fast forward to today. The baby is here (and he is adorable, I might add!) and things are in motion, as promised.
Davina is now alone, in her home, caring for six children with no help. She has no family nearby to lean on. She is a stay at home mother and relies on the money that her estranged husband provides for her and her children.
Please. take a moment to imagine what it must be like! To be a woman with six children, one of whom is a newborn, another who is 18 months old with no support system. To be financially vulnerable with 10 years experience as a stay at home mother on your resume. To contemplate the cost of childcare for six. To be looking at a divorce in your immediate future.
To ensure that Davina is fully educated on, and is able to utilize, her legal rights in this situation, she will need an attorney. She has already sought legal council and has been informed that the cost for representation during her divorce will fall into the $5k range. It is also my hope that we are able to raise enough money to provide Davina with funds for childcare, to give her a bit of a break from the craziness that is her life, caring for six kiddos!
Please give what you can. Any and all are deeply appreciated! Let's help to ease the struggle for Davina and her kids and to bring a little sunshine into this situation for them.
