2021 Earthquake in Haiti
Donation protected
Hi my name is Sonia.
I am asking you to help my native country, Haiti.
At a time when Haiti is without an organized government and suffering greatly from COVID-19, they have now been hit with a magnitude 7.2 earthquake. The situation there is now very dire. Thousands of families are struggling and left with nothing- this includes not being able to feed their children, having a roof over their heads, or even having the basic necessity of easily accessible and clean water. These are all crucial elements for survival that many of us have access to in great abundance every day.
As many of you may know, this is the second devastating earthquake that has occurred in Haiti in the last decade. Haiti was still trying to recover from the previous one in 2010, but now with this recent one, the damage and destruction will require an even longer road to recovery. Families have had their homes destroyed, lost their loved ones, and are now not having what they need to provide for themselves.
What can you do to help? Haitians need as much funding as we can provide for them to be able to obtain basic needs such as food, water, and materials to help build shelter.
Rural communities such as Dessource, where members of my immediate family live, are located very far from the major cities. This means that many of the large NGOs cannot reach there. (see map) The large aid organizations focus on the large cities where they the sheer population need is greatest. The roads leading to Dessource are impassable, and the journey by car is long and arduous with relatively fewer people to help. But currently, there are hundreds of survivors there, children and elderly, camped out at my family home (which is still standing) awaiting aid from NGOs which will take months and months to arrive. I am hopeful for your donations to send to Dessource directly, so that they can rebuild and get back on their feet again.
Any donation that you can send through helps because every penny is an inch closer for Haiti to become strong again. Your support in trying to help Haitians rebuild step by step goes a long way. Thank you for helping to support the families in Dessource.
