Help Chloe Beat Cancer

Family, friends and community it is time to rally for Chloe and her family. On Thursday, December 28th, the Ward family (Kayla, Kevin, Addy, Chloe, Brysen and Kinsley) received the unimaginable news that Chloe, 8, was diagnosed with Papillary Renal Cell Carcinoma (Kidney Cancer).
On Friday, September 16th Chloe and her family made the trip from Redding over to Eureka to see Chloe’s uncle Matt Taylor, who was in hospice fighting pancreatic cancer. After spending precious time with their family they returned to their grandparents home and the kids wanted to lift their spirits with a ride on the quad. During this ride an accident occurred that landed little Chloe in the ER at St. Joesph Hospital. Upon further testing the ER doctors discovered a lesion on Chloe’s kidney.
On 11/8 an ultrasound showed a prominent rounded lesion in the interpolar region of the left kidney and stated that she should follow up with MRI. After many appointments the doctors at UC Davis told Chloe’s mother that they didn’t think this was anything to worry about she has probably had it for years and the pains she was experiencing were not caused by the mass on her kidney that we needed to have a STAT MRI within the next 30 days.
On 12/3 Chloe was playing like normal when she said her stomach was hurting. Her mom told her to lay down and rest but not much time had passed, and Chloe was screaming laying on the living room floor in excruciating pain. She could not sit, stand or bend over. Her mom took her straight to the ER where they performed another ultrasound and CT scan and the results showed significant growth in the lesion since previous scans.
Chloe was airlifted to UC Davis hospital on 12/4. The following day she underwent a 2 hour sedated MRI that showed that the tumor was growing on the outside of the kidney through the center and through the renal pelvis that she would need surgery to remove part of her kidney.
On 12/19 Chloe and her mom headed to UC Davis for surgery. The surgeon decided to take the whole kidney as well as any surrounding lymphnoids. On 12/28 Kayla got a call from the urologist say that the pathology on the kidney has come back with papillary renal cell carcinoma and that they were sending referral to UC Davis Pediatric Oncology.
Chloe is your typical 8 year old girl. She is beautiful, loving, smart, sassy, and tough as nails. Her strong character combined with her family’s love and the love and support of each of you, will help propel her past this diagnosis and on to a healthy and successful life.
The entire Ward family will also need our love and support in order to overcome this unfortunate time in their lives. So many have already reached out asking what they can do to help, which is a credit to the Ward family and how they have positively impacted so many lives around them.
Right now it is impossible to know or understand the physical, mental, and emotional stress that this diagnosis will bring on the Ward family. There will be many sleepless nights of worry about Chloe’s health, tears of sadness and joy, and many ups and downs as Chloe courageously battles and perseveres through this unexpected chapter of her life. There will also be financial stress related to which treatments or medications will or will not be covered by insurance, to gas, lodging and parking expenses for trips to UC Davis, as well as everyday expenses that we all take for granted. One thing for certain, is that this is going to be an emotionally and financially straining journey.
This GoFundMe was set up to show our love and support for Chloe and the Ward family, and to help ease some of the emotional and financial stress.
