On 12/3/2021 the Tucson Police Department sadly lost Detective Justin Gilbert. Justin joined the police department in June of 2006. He honorable and proudly served the community of Tucson for over 15 years. He began his career as a patrol officer in Operations Division West. He served on the Community Response Team and was promoted to detective in 2013. Justin worked in several different units as a detective to include, the Domestic Violence unit, Organized Crime, and was assigned to Counter Narcotics Alliance where he worked in the Money Laundering Unit and Home Invasion Unit. Second only to his family was his dedication to serving his community. He was a tenacious investigator and worked doggedly to pursue cases. The City of Tucson was a safer and better place with Justin serving it.
Justin was even a better father and husband. Justin was extremely dedicated to his wife and two daughters. He spent most of his off duty time with them traveling to athletic events and spending quality time with the ones that he loved. Justin loved his family most of all. Inevitably conversations would turn to his family and you could see his devotion to them. His face would light up when talking about the latest softball game or wrestling match. Justin will have a lasting effect far beyond his years. Justin loved coaching. As a softball coach he has ensured a legacy with the girls he coached. It gave him the opportunity to spend time with his family and be an active participant in the lives of his daughters. Justin has helped to mold future generations and will not be forgotten.
Justin had a very unique style of “relationship building “with friends and colleagues. Justin was damn funny and very witty. Many have tried but few have accomplished the level of verbal sparring that he possessed.
Justin leaves behind a legacy and influence that few can match.
